Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about my practice, approach, and what to expect when working together.

What is your individual session rate?

Individual sessions are $180 for a 45-minute session. I offer both in-person appointments in Herndon, VA and online sessions, so you can choose what works best for you.

Do you accept insurance?

My practice is private pay, and I do not participate with insurance. What I'm happy to do is provide you with a superbill, a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many plans reimburse part of the cost of each session, though every plan is different. It's worth asking your insurer: Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? What is my deductible, and has it been met? How much is covered per therapy session?

What's your couples session rate?

Couples sessions are $225 for a 60-minute session, either in person at my Herndon, VA office or online, depending on your preference.

What is EFT, and why does it matter for couples therapy?

EFT—Emotionally Focused Therapy—is a well-researched, structured approach designed specifically for couples work which enables me to do more than just be a referee to your conflict week after week. An EFT perspective also allows me to see that each person in the relationship is doing the best they can to deal with the relationship distress with the tools and protections they have, which is a more compassionate way of working than seeing one partner as the bad guy. Struggling in your relationship doesn’t mean anyone is broken or dysfunctional or deserving of a diagnosis. We can all get stuck in painful cycles and my job is to help you get unstuck. I am certified in EFT, which means I have training and experience in helping couples understand the emotional patterns driving their conflicts and rebuild connection. Rather than general couples work, EFT gives us a roadmap with steps and stages so we can all be on the same page as I help you move through issues with an actual plan for how things can get better in a healthy way without causing more damage.

How do you work with infidelity and relationship crisis?

Infidelity and betrayal can feel devastating and leave you unsure how—or whether—to repair things. My EFT training and experience with couples in crisis gives me a framework to help you both work through the pain, rebuild trust, and decide what's right for your relationship. This isn't about quick fixes; it's about genuine healing.

What should I expect in my first session?

In your first session, we'll talk about what brought you in and what you hope to work on. If you're coming as a couple, I'll listen to each person's perspective. My goal is to understand your situation and help you feel heard. We'll discuss next steps and how we might work together. Whether you're dealing with relationship conflict, grief, or another challenge, this first session is about building understanding, not solving everything at once.

Do you work with individuals and couples?

Yes, I work with individuals and couples. I also have experience with teens and adults across the lifespan, including elders. Many people come to me for relationship issues, but I also support individuals working through grief, anxiety, depression, and early motherhood.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk about what's bringing you in and whether I'm the right fit for you. There's no obligation, and it's a good way to get a feel for how I work before committing to a first session.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you can't make your scheduled appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. Missed appointments without 24 hours' notice are charged the full cost of the session.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, and all major credit cards are accepted, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. I can also take Health Savings Account (HSA) payments and PayPal.

Where is your office? Do you offer in-person sessions?

My office is at 463 Carlisle Drive, Suite A, in Herndon, VA 20170. I offer both in-person and online sessions, and most of my clients meet with me online. I see clients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and Friday mornings by appointment.

Will I know what my care will cost ahead of time?

Yes. Under the law, health care providers must give patients who aren't using insurance a Good Faith Estimate: a written estimate of the total expected cost of your care. You have the right to receive one in writing at least one business day before your first session, and you can ask for one at any time before scheduling. For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Shouldn't I be able to handle this on my own?

Reaching out doesn't mean you're not strong. Would you feel you weren't strong if you consulted a personal trainer or followed a nutrition plan? Or would you see it as seeking out an expert to help you reach a goal? Counseling is the same idea. Sometimes it helps to share the burden with someone outside the circle of your life, someone who knows strategies for what you're struggling with and can offer an unbiased perspective that the people who love you can't.
